Why Whole Body Hyperthermia Treatment Is Worth the Try
Many therapeutic services are used to alleviate sickness and supplement medical interventions. Whole-body hyperthermia is one of the complementary treatments for cancer, tumors, and other illnesses. It is done by submerging the body in a warm or hot bath, raising the body’s temperature to activate and improve disease-fighting abilities. It is also used as a therapeutic treatment to boost the immune system.
Hyperthermia treatment is not just limited to persons diagnosed with an illness, but it is also an effective way to prevent the risks of developing symptoms early on.
How Whole Body Hyperthermia Treatments Benefit Your Health and Wellness
What is Hyperthermia Treatment?
Hyperthermia is a form of treatment where the body’s temperature is raised as high as 45 degrees Celsius to achieve several health benefits. Medical studies have found that increased body heat activates the immune system, enabling it to fight off diseases, cancer, and tumors.
There are three types of therapeutic hyperthermia:
Local hyperthermia
Specialized medical devices are inserted into a small area of the body. They are used to deliver targeted heat and treat tumors. This method uses electromagnetic, radio, or ultrasound waves.
Regional hyperthermia
Larger body cavities, abdomen, limbs and the like (where advanced tumors are located within) are heated through several methods like deep tissue therapy, regional perfusion, or combined with chemotherapy. More complex than local hyperthermia.
Whole-body hyperthermia (WBH)
Controlled heat is induced throughout the entire body using a hot bath, heated blanket, or incubator. Usually done to fight metastasized cancer or to simply boost the immune system.

How Does Whole Body Hyperthermia Treatment Work?
Before Therapy
- You may be taken for a short consultation with an in-house doctor or medical expert about the procedure, benefits, and potential side effects of WBH.
- A doctor or therapist may perform an initial assessment to determine if you are fit for hyperthermia therapy.
- They may advise you of requirements such as hydration, fasting, or pausing medications that may interfere with the treatment.
During Full Body Hyperthermia
- Your therapist will monitor your vitals throughout your bath in case of changes.
- Inform your therapist if you feel uncomfortable or are experiencing unusual symptoms.
- The session lasts for 30 minutes unless recommended otherwise by your therapist. Remain calm and relaxed for the session.
After Therapy
- Your therapist will guide you through your resting and rehydration period. A doctor may inform you of your post-treatment plans and reminders.
- Follow the therapist’s instructions for post-treatment. Comply with your follow-up treatments if necessary.
- Engage in additional therapeutic treatment available or recommended once recovered.
Health Benefits of Hyperthermia Bath
- Aids in cancer treatment
Whole-body hyperthermia treatment is recognized by the National Cancer Institute as a safe and effective way to fight cancer cells. Although it may not be as effective as a treatment on its own, it is primarily used to help improve the efficiency of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
- Boosts immune system
Elevating the temperature of the body causes an immune response to be triggered, enabling it to identify and fight potential diseases and cancer cells. A hyperthermia bath can train the body’s immune response to cancer, which can be both a preventive function and therapy.
- Helps shrink tumors
Local and regional hyperthermia in particular, can target and decrease tumors in certain areas of the body. Because the body’s immune system is activated to kill cancer cells, tumors are projected to shrink as they are deprived of the cells.
- Antidepressant and mood improvement
With regular sessions, you may experience better mood levels. A feasibility study made in 2023 found significant mood improvements after twelve participants diagnosed with clinical depression completed their prescribed WBH treatment sessions. It is highly suggested that the treatment activated temperature regulation in the hypothalamus after the body’s exposure to heat.
- Detoxifies your body
A hyperthermia bath can help you detoxify through sweating. While the hot water raises your body’s temperature, your skin releases this heat through your sweat glands, along with toxins and impurities in your body. Although this treatment is not directly intended for complete detoxification, it is an added health benefit to regular sessions.
The various health benefits of whole-body hyperthermia make it a versatile treatment that promotes better wellbeing and improved bodily function. Luckily, this treatment is made more accessible through wellness facilities and clinics around the country.
