H ealth and wellness have taken center stage in the Philippines. The Department of Tourism (DOT) (https://philippines.travel) is doing its utmost best to help support its wellness, spa, health, and medical tourism industries in regaining consumer confidence and in promoting the Philippines as an excellent, healthy and safe destination.
Since the first lockdown in March 2020, the DOT has been in touch with the wellness communities and stakeholders to come up with plans on how to mitigate the impact on the industry. It is a very high-touch industry, and it is committed to protecting its clients, workers, and the entire wellness community by applying the highest standards in terms of health protocols that are acceptable to both the Department of Health and the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task.

Furthermore, to reduce close contact, wellness in the Philippines will see a new focus on “Mental Health”, “Motivation”, “Sound Therapy”, “Meditation”, “Yoga”, and “Nutrition”, and wellness employees will undergo training to prepare for the soft tourism re-opening. At present, the DOT also foresees promoting “Wellness Workation” – working in a vacation ambiance combined with wellness. “Metro-Bliss” will refer to hotels within the city. This concept is currently still being developed as a wellness product by the Department of Tourism but is slated to launch in June 2021.
Many properties, such as Nurture Wellness Village, have implemented the new health protocols, following the health and safety guidelines set by the Department of Tourism. The Farm at San Benito, for example, has even invested in their own rapid testing on-site. All wellness properties have to comply with the rigid requirements before the DOT awards them a certificate to operate.
